Gajim 1.9.4

Gajim 1.9.4 has been released

Gajim 1.9.4 integrates XMPP Providers, supports Hats and brings many improvements and bug fixes. Thank you for all your contributions!

What’s New

Hats

Thanks to our contributor @nicoco, Gajim received support for Hats (XEP-0317). Hats allow to assign roles to group chat participants, i.e. “Support”, “Expert” or really anything you like to assign. Gajim displays Hats in the list of participants.

XMPP Providers integration

Gajim integrates the XMPP Providers list

Gajim integrates the XMPP Providers list

XMPP (Extensible Messaging and Presence Protocol) is like a common language both your and your chat partner’s app speak to each other. Similar to email, there is a service provider managing your account and messages. That provider speaks XMPP too.

But some XMPP providers support functionalities that other providers do not. Some support registrations via your app and some only via their websites. Some provide more space for sharing media than others or store them longer than others. That is where the XMPP Providers project comes into play. The project offers a curated list of XMPP providers, which makes it easy for you to find a suitable provider. All properties of the included providers are automatically checked on a daily basis and updated if needed. When creating a new account with Gajim, you will now be offered suggestions taken from this curated list.

What else happened

  • You can now choose if you want to synchronize group chats between your chat apps
  • Message search now offers an interface for filtering
  • Message loading performance has been improved
  • Group chat search results show more infos (reachable via Start Chat > Group chat search)
  • Typing indicator has been moved to the bottom of the chat
  • A bug which caused the chat to become very wide if messages contained long links has been fixed

Have a look at the changelog for a complete list.
