xep-136 is quite ready, but a XEP discussion is running, so we wait for that.
Plugin branch: I'll update it in the next days, and hope that it's mergable to trunk.
whiteboarding branch, it's not ready at all, so won't be merged for the moment.
So I propose to wait for plugin branch and xep136 and then convert tabs to space.

If I understand correctly, noexpandtabs means the source uses tabs, and tabwidth=3 means that tabs should be 3 spaces long—not that they should be replaced by 3 spaces.
